11 October 2009 This week at Torry

This week is a bit of a quieter week at Torry as we are into the local two week holiday time.

However, this evening at 7pm we have our Torry Cell meeting in the flat upstairs from the hall. We are starting a three week focus on mission.

Monday - 12.30pm lunch club followed by the CAMEO cell group, both in the hall.

Next Sunday, 18th October, we have the Torry Cell meeting, same time, same place.

We have no 'Blast!' kids drop in over the school holidays. We start back 27th Oct.

Tuesday 6th October: Adult and Family Rally and Blast Kids Drop in

Mike & Jenny Clark, Territorial Evangelists

Adult and Family Ministries Rally
Today has been a busy day for us here in Torry. A few of our folks travelled over to Aberdeen Citadel to attend the Adult and Family Ministries Rally, a day when many from groups across the North East of Scotland come together for worship and fellowship.

We were blessed by the ministry of Territorial Evangelists, Mike and Jenny Clark. The couple have a wonderful musical and spiritual ministry which has spanned 25 years in The Salvation Army. They have played key parts in The Salvation Army Roots Conference and have worked tirelessly to take the good news of the Kingdom around the UK and beyond.

Blast!
Our few weeks old drop in for children saw its third week this week and numbers remained strong in spite of a local school event. Its a great privilege to get to know these children and be a part of their lives for an evening a week. We have a few weeks holiday on line with school holidays, but look forward to next term!

Flag Day Thank You!

We collected in the region of £350 towards the work of The Salvation Army in Torry at the flag day on Union Street on Saturday just passed. A big thanks to all who gave so generously. This is on top of the £800 or so collecteb by Aberdeen Citadel collectors.

Friday 2 October 2009

This Weekend at Torry

Saturday - Captains Andrew & Tracy will be on Union Street taking part in the annual Flag Day, a collection to support the work of the Army both in Torry and at the Citadel.

Sunday - Captain Andrew will be at HMP Aberdeen for the chapel service and Captain Tracy will be sharing in worship at Aberdeen Citadel for their Harvest Family Service.

At 6.30pm for 7pm, in the flat above The Salvation Army hall, our Sunday night cell group meets. We are currently doing a series of studies around the importance of God's word for us. We eat, pray, worship, study scripture together and encourage each other in our witness as part of these meetings. You're welcome to join us.

Friday Night Drop in

Each Friday night we run a youth drop in at the local youth centre. We usually get around 25 - 30 young people of secondary school age. This week, however, was a busy one and we had 40 all at one time which isn't great as the room only holds 30!

Unfortunately we had some new first year students playing up so they were the obvious candidates to leave but we're hoping that as they come along for a bit longer they'll chill a bit more.

A good night in the end, with a few games of footie thrown in, the usual games of pool and internet use.
